This is an entertaining read of one man’s tour of the country’s top college golf courses. I discovered there are great courses at colleges and universities in every part of the country. They vary in style, and each has a unique character. Some courses are traditional and have been a part of the college for decades; others are new designs. All are beautiful and challenging.The short book is well-written. It includes interesting stories of events throughout the adventure, good descriptions of each course’s most challenging holes and beautiful photographs of the campuses and especially their golf courses.
And after a round of golf, what better way to review the game than with a pint of good beer? The author includes tips on those too. Look for the subtleties…. like the draft beer handles as golf club covers on the book’s cover.
I enjoyed and recommend the book.

Great book by a great guy!
Jim has caught the essence of a wonderful tour of the country's best college courses. As a golf nut myself, I felt I was walking the courses with him.
What a fun way to combine golf, friends and travel! I love the photos and how they depict the challenge of each course on the list. A great book!
For anyone interested in college golf or classic courses, this is a must read. Plus the advice on the local brews is very helpful.
Such a great idea, and a great guy to go on a quest such as this. One feels like he is playing the various college courses with the author, enjoying them and appreciating his descriptions of their leading features. As a Stanford golfer, I agree with his assessment of my (and his) home course. An enjoyable read with nice pictures of various golf holes.
What a great idea! I wish I had been on every (ok, most) of the sojourns to play the courses with Jim and his companions. His book is a breezy read with superb photographs. With tips on great beers after every round, what more can you ask?
This is a fun, one-sitting read that takes you to and shows photographs of 25 college golf courses and their campuses. Part travelogue, part golf-course architecture critique, it visits every region of America and notes how the courses were adapted to the local geography. Getting there is half the fun, playing the rounds is the other half. The post-round brew pub recommendations are a bonus. Even if you are a hacker like me, after reading this book you will want to hop in your car or on a plane and start your own trek to play college golf courses and visit campuses all across the US.
